BREW
When University of Pennsylvania sophomores Braden Saba and Ariel Gelrud first got to campus their freshman year, all they wanted to do was jam. It started small- just drums and a piano late at night in a practice room, but they could tell they were onto something. Shortly thereafter, Gelrud brought along the now-junior bassist Chris Throop, and the trio would occasionally jam together whenever they could find time.
It wasn't until Saba thought to bring his friend and extraordinary vocalist Liza Babin that band really started exploring their style and direction. Starting with covers, they've taken an eclectic mix of songs and reinvented them in their own style which features intricate hi-hat rhythms in the drums, smooth Rhodes arpeggiating in the keys, and deep runs on the bass, all underneath the gritty and soulful vocals of Babin.
